Eight first-hour steps

  1. Launch once. Confirm the editors window opens cleanly after install prompts so you know the binary registered on this machine.
  2. Create a sheet. Enter sample values and a basic formula so you can see calculation before you import anything larger.
  3. Save .xlsx locally. Pick a folder you control on this PC rather than a shared Desktop that other accounts can overwrite.
  4. Reopen the file. Confirm persistence after a restart of the app so you trust the save path before migrating critical books.
  5. Open an exported cloud sheet. Spot-check totals if you migrated from a cloud tab so surprises show up in the first hour, not at month-end.
  6. Note the update door. Write winget, brew, or the Releases filename on a card so the next person inherits a clear update door.
  7. Skip cloud connect. Leave DocSpace linking for later unless a policy already requires it, because offline proof should come first.

Windows

Expect a Start Menu shortcut after the exe or winget path finishes, and read SmartScreen carefully on the first exe run.

macOS

The first hour succeeds when you can point to a saved workbook and a written update door. Everything else is decoration.
